How it works
How to make a wedding seating plan
In short: a wedding seating plan (or table plan) maps every guest to a table so your venue knows how to lay the room and your guests know where to sit. Here is the whole job in three steps.
- Add your guestsType names one by one, or paste your whole guest list straight from a spreadsheet: one name per line. Duplicates are skipped automatically.
- Set up your tablesAdd round tables, long tables, and a top table, rename them, and set how many seats each one has. The plan warns you the moment a table is over capacity.

How many guests fit at each table
The three table shapes in the maker, with the seat counts venues actually quote. Every table is editable, so match the numbers your venue gives you.
Round table
Default: 8 seats
The banquet default at Cyprus venues. 8 guests keeps conversation easy; 10 to 12 fit a large table but feel tight.
Long table
Default: 10 seats
Trestle rows or one banquet line. Plan roughly 60 cm of table edge per guest, plus the two ends.
Top table
Default: 6 seats
The couple plus wedding party or parents, usually seated along one side facing the room.

The top table. Tradition puts the couple in the middle, flanked by parents, the best man, and the maid of honour, all facing the room. If parents are divorced or remarried, drop the tradition before you upset anyone: a couple-only sweetheart table, or a top table of just the wedding party, sidesteps the whole question.
Mix by connection, not by category. Seat people next to at least one person they know and one they will get on with. Full tables of strangers stay quiet; full tables of one friendship group split the room into cliques. University friends plus the cousins they met at the hen do beats "friends table" and "family table".
Couples and plus-ones sit together. Splitting couples across tables reads as a statement, not a mixer. Singles do better seated near people their age with a shared connection, never on a designated "singles table".
Children. Under-10s sit with their parents; a separate kids' table only works from about age 7 up and with something to do. Teenagers count as adults for seating and will thank you for it.
Feuds. Do not test them at dinner. Keep the parties at separate tables with other guests as buffers, and put the tables on the same side of the room so neither reads as banished.

Seating plans for a wedding abroad
A destination wedding makes the seating plan easier and the deadline harder. Easier, because guest lists are smaller and everyone who flies out genuinely wants to be there. Harder, because your venue coordinator in Cyprus needs the final table plan, dietary notes, and place cards while you are still at home, usually 1 to 2 weeks before the day.
Two Cyprus-specific tips: outdoor terraces favour long tables, which look spectacular in photos but seat fewer guests per square metre than rounds, so confirm the layout with your reception venue before you finalise numbers. And if families are flying in from two countries, mix the tables deliberately: a shared wedding abroad is the best icebreaker you will ever get. Frequently asked questions
When should we make our wedding seating plan?
Start once most RSVPs are in, usually 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding, and finalise it 1 to 2 weeks out when numbers are locked. Your venue or caterer will ask for the final table plan around that point, together with dietary notes.
Do we actually need a seating plan?
For a sit-down meal with more than about 30 guests, yes. Open seating sounds relaxed but leaves couples split up, families scattered, and the last guests circling for chairs. A table plan removes the single most awkward moment of the reception.
How many guests fit on each table?
A standard round table seats 8 comfortably and 10 to 12 at a squeeze. A long trestle table takes roughly 60 cm of table edge per guest per side. The maker starts each table shape at a sensible default and lets you set the exact number your venue quotes.
Who sits at the top table?
Traditionally the couple, both sets of parents, the best man, and the maid of honour, facing the room. Modern weddings mix it freely: couple-only sweetheart tables and top tables with the wedding party are both common. Do what suits your families, not the diagram.
