The word celebrant covers two jobs in Cyprus, and picking the wrong one costs you weeks. A municipality Marriage Officer runs the legal civil ceremony: published fee 128.15 euros (about 110 pounds) on the normal procedure, or 281.90 euros (about 240 pounds) on the special licence that can marry you within a day or two of giving notice. You do not choose that officer - your municipality assigns one, and the ceremony is a fixed 15-30 minute script at the Town Hall or an approved venue, with two witnesses signing the register.
An independent wedding celebrant is a separate booking. They write and lead a personalised or symbolic ceremony - your own vows, readings, a sand or candle ritual - and are the right call if you have already handled the legal paperwork at home, or want a bilingual service a UK guest list and a German family can both follow. A symbolic ceremony carries no legal weight on its own, so the civil side still happens at a municipality or your home register office.
We list both routes: the marriage offices in Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Protaras for the civil ceremony, plus independent, English and German-speaking celebrants for a symbolic or bilingual one. Good independent officiants take a single wedding a day and hold your date on roughly a 50% deposit, so book early. Before you fix the flights, confirm who books the Marriage Officer and how far ahead your municipality needs notice - the special-licence route needs one clear working day of residence first.
