Traditional wording is written in the third person from the hosts, uses full formal names, and spells the date and time out in full: "Saturday, the fifteenth of May two thousand and twenty-seven, at three o'clock in the afternoon". The request line carries the signal: request the honour of your presence traditionally means a religious ceremony, while request the pleasure of your company means a civil or secular venue. British spellings, honour and favour, throughout.

Modern wording puts your names first and lets numerals do the work: "Emma & James invite you to celebrate their marriage, 15 May 2027". Relaxed wording drops the formality entirely: "We're getting hitched - come for the wedding, stay for the holiday". The one rule that always holds: match the words to the day. A barefoot beach ceremony in Paphos does not want "the honour of your presence", and a formal church wedding does not want "we're doing it".

The first line of a wedding invitation names whoever is hosting. The traditional form is the bride's parents: "Mr and Mrs John Wright request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter". When both families host, both sets of names open the invitation. When you host yourselves, your own names lead, and "Together with their families" is the graceful middle ground that credits everyone without listing anyone.

For a destination wedding in Cyprus, most couples host themselves - you are the ones inviting people to travel. If parents are contributing and you want that reflected, "Together with their families" carries it without a formal host line. Blended families, a single parent or a late remarriage all work the same way: name exactly who hosts, or step up to the together-with form and sidestep the question entirely.

A destination invitation carries more weight than a home one: guests are booking flights, hotels and annual leave off the back of it. Name the town as well as the venue so nobody misses that the wedding is abroad, and point everything practical to your wedding website rather than crowding the card. The invitations themselves follow 3 to 4 months out, with an RSVP date that still leaves you time to confirm final numbers with your venue and caterer.
