Boat weddings vs yacht weddings - what is the difference

Yacht is bigger and usually more luxurious. Boat is smaller, more accessible, often cheaper. In Cyprus the line blurs - many “boat” charters are catamarans or motor cruisers in the 8-15 metre range.

Best Cyprus boat wedding harbours

  • Latchi (north Paphos) - small charters out to the Akamas Peninsula and the famous Blue Lagoon. Picturesque coastline.
  • Paphos Harbour - heritage feel, fishing-boat aesthetic, smaller charters
  • Larnaca Marina - wider variety, mid-market
  • Ayia Napa Harbour - short Cape Greco runs

Typical boat wedding format

  1. Pre-ceremony drinks at the harbour (30 min)
  2. Board the boat, depart
  3. Sail out 20-40 minutes to a sheltered cove or anchor point
  4. Symbolic ceremony at sea (15-25 min)
  5. Cocktails + canapés on board (1-2 hours)
  6. Return to harbour
  7. Continue reception at a nearby restaurant or beach club

Total time: 4-6 hours.

Cost reality

  • Small charter (10-20 guests, 4 hours): €800-€1,800
  • Mid charter (20-30 guests, 5 hours): €1,800-€3,500
  • Premium charter (with catering, 30 guests, full day): €4,500-€7,500

Add: ceremony decoration, photographer travel premium, post-cruise reception venue.

When a boat wedding makes sense

  • Small wedding party (10-30 guests)
  • You want something visually distinctive (beach is too common, vineyard too remote)
  • The wedding date is in May, June, September, or October
  • Logistics tolerance is high

When it does NOT

  • Guest list 40+
  • Tight budget - there is no cheap boat wedding
  • Anyone with severe motion sickness
  • Limited mobility guests (boarding can be difficult)
  • November-March (rough seas, cancellation risk)
