Why Protaras is suddenly on every Cyprus wedding shortlist
Search interest for “wedding venues in Protaras Cyprus” is up over 2,150% in the past six months. That is not a typo. The east coast resort town has quietly become the fastest-growing Cyprus wedding destination - and unlike most “trending” venue stories, the data is real.
Here is what changed: couples started realising they could get the same beaches as Ayia Napa, the same all-inclusive resort offerings, but with a calmer atmosphere that suits a wedding better than a stag weekend. Protaras is 6 km up the coast from Ayia Napa. Same coastline. Different vibe.
What makes Protaras good for a wedding
The beaches. Fig Tree Bay is on every “best beaches in Europe” list. Konnos Bay is a sheltered cove with calm water for swimming and ceremony photos. Sirina Bay is small enough that you can essentially have it to yourselves outside peak hours. All three are within 10 minutes of the main resort strip.
The venues. Protaras has a strong cluster of 4 and 5-star beachfront resorts that handle wedding logistics - ceremony on the beach, reception in the resort’s restaurant or terrace, guests stay overnight. The biggest names are Constantinos The Great Beach Hotel, Vrissaki Beach Hotel, and Capo Bay Hotel. Smaller venues exist in nearby Paralimni and Pernera if you want something more intimate.
The transfer time. Larnaca International Airport is 50 minutes away by car. Compare that to Paphos (90+ minutes from Larnaca, or fly into the smaller Paphos airport). For UK guests flying in for a long weekend, the shorter transfer is genuinely useful.
The price point. Protaras is generally 10-20% cheaper than Limassol or Paphos for an equivalent venue. Not because it is lower quality - because the demand has only recently caught up.
What it is not great for
If you want city dining options after the wedding, Limassol is better. If you want UNESCO sites in the photos, Paphos. If you want vineyards, Troodos. Protaras is a beach-resort wedding destination - that is its identity.
Three Protaras wedding venues to look at first
- Constantinos The Great Beach Hotel - 5-star, beachfront, runs 100+ weddings a year. Strong process.
- Vrissaki Beach Hotel - smaller, more intimate, beach access, 4-star price point.
- Capo Bay Hotel - 4-star, family-friendly, the choice for couples whose guest list includes kids.

Practical next steps
- Pick 2-3 venues from the list and email all of them at once. Direct email beats third-party booking sites.
- Ask for a sample week’s package pricing for your approximate guest count. The number you want is “all-in including ceremony, reception, drinks, and accommodation for guests”.
- Pin down legal vs symbolic ceremony before you commit - see our Getting Married in Cyprus legal guide.
- Visit, if you can. A two-day scouting trip in November or February costs about £400 per person and removes 90% of the trust gap.
Frequently asked questions
Is Protaras better than Ayia Napa for a wedding?
For most UK couples wanting a calmer wedding atmosphere with the same beach quality, yes. Protaras has the same southeast coast bays (Fig Tree, Konnos, Sirina Bay) but with quieter resorts and fewer late-night crowds. Ayia Napa wins if your guests want nightlife built into the package.
How many wedding venues are in Protaras?
My Cyprus Wedding currently lists 26 verified Protaras-area wedding venues, including resort hotels, beach clubs, and venues in nearby Paralimni, Pernera, and Sotira. The full list is on the Protaras location page.
When is the best time of year for a Protaras wedding?
May, June, September, and early October are the strongest months. July-August is hot (32-36°C) but very reliable; April and late October are cheaper and pleasant but with a small rain risk.
How do guests get to Protaras from the UK?
Larnaca International Airport is 65 km away (about 50 minutes by transfer). Direct UK flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh land daily in summer. Most resorts arrange airport shuttles for groups.
