Why Nissi Beach Resort

Nissi Beach Resort sits at 77 Nissi Avenue in Ayia Napa, on a private stretch of sand looking over Nissi Bay. Listings describe a 4-star resort of around 270 rooms with three pools set in roughly 100,000 square metres of gardens. It is part of the same family as the Alion Beach Hotel and Nissi Park Hotel, and it has been marrying couples long enough to call itself the island’s leading wedding destination. For a UK couple, the argument here is range. Most Cyprus hotels sell you one ceremony spot and one reception room, and your guest list has to fit them. Nissi Beach publishes eight reception settings with capacities from 10 to 500, which means you can put the drinks somewhere different from the dinner, and you can move the whole thing indoors if the weather turns.

The trade-off is that this is a busy holiday resort in a busy resort town, not a private estate. Ayia Napa in August is exactly what you think it is. Choose your month accordingly.

The ceremony

Ceremonies take place at a beachfront gazebo set among palm trees above the bay. The resort hosts civil ceremonies, Anglican services and vow renewals, so a church-style service is possible without leaving the site, which is unusual.

Planner listings price gazebo hire at £170 (€200) for couples resident at the hotel for seven nights. That is one of the lower ceremony charges of any 4-star beachfront hotel on this coast, and it is a genuine point in the resort’s favour when you are comparing quotes. Ask for the figure that applies if you are not staying seven nights.

The resort’s weddings are run by a named wedding manager, Marios Charalambous, with an enquiry form and a detailed wedding guide covering menus, decor and civil wedding documentation.

The eight reception venues

The resort’s own list, with published capacities:

• Private dining - up to 10 guests. For an elopement or a family-only dinner.
• Thalassa Terrace - up to 60 guests. A decked terrace with sea views under a wooden canopy, surrounded by gardens. Hire listed at £260 (€300).
• Pelican Beach Venue - up to 80 guests. Sea views, dressed with white draped linen and candles, buffets or BBQ. Hire listed at £515 (€600).
• Fresco Terrace - up to 100 guests.
• Orfeas Lounge - up to 100 guests.
• Rondavel Beach Venue - up to 150 guests. Arranged over three levels elevated just above the sea, taking wedding parties from 25 upwards, with buffet or BBQ and dancing to live music or a DJ. Hire listed at £515 (€600).
• Athena Ballroom - up to 250 guests. The indoor formal option and the realistic wet-weather plan.
• Taverna Nissi - up to 500 outdoors or 200 indoors. The largest space, with views over the bay.

The Ambrosia Terrace also appears on planner listings with no hire fee and a 20-person minimum, which is worth asking about if you want to keep the venue line as low as possible. Most of the private venues carry a stated minimum of 20 guests.

For an 80-guest wedding, the honest shortlist is Pelican at exactly 80, Rondavel with room to breathe, or the Athena Ballroom if you want walls. Note that the Rondavel and Pelican fees are three times the Thalassa fee, so the venue choice moves your budget by several hundred pounds before anyone eats.

What it costs

The resort publishes hire fees but not menus or packages, so the total depends on what you put inside the venue. Two reference points help.

UK operator The Wedding Travel Company advertises a ceremony and reception package from £6,519 based on 25 guests, covering a UK wedding planner and a local coordinator, the beachfront ceremony venue with fresh flowers and a music system, a bridal bouquet and buttonhole, half-day photography, bridal hair and make-up, a single-tier cake, the reception venue with chairs and white linen covers, garden flowers and candles on the tables, a BBQ buffet menu and a professional DJ. Build your own budget from four lines instead of one number: venue hire (£170 to £515), the per-head menu, a drinks package, and the licence and registry fees below. Two booking rules affect the budget. Planner listings state that the couple must stay at the hotel for a minimum of seven nights, and that the reception meal has to take place in one of the private venues, booked first come first served with a deposit to hold a specific space. Popular Saturdays in June and September go early.

The legal bit

Civil marriages here are administered by the Agia Napa Municipality wedding registry, not the hotel. Ceremonies are short civil services conducted by the Mayor or a marriage officer, Monday to Friday between 11:00 and 18:00 and Saturday between 11:00 and 14:00, excluding bank holidays.

The costs sit outside any venue quote. The Cyprus marriage licence is set nationally at €281.92, about £240. Planner listings for this venue add a marriage officer attendance fee of roughly £170 (€200) for a ceremony away from the Town Hall, with a further £170 (€200) for a Saturday wedding. Those two figures come from wedding companies rather than the municipality’s published tariff, so confirm them with the registry before you build them into a spreadsheet.

Guest logistics

Larnaca International Airport is the arrival point for UK guests. Published distances to Ayia Napa range from about 34 km to 53 km depending on the source and route, so budget roughly 40 to 50 minutes by coach and get a firm time from your transfer company rather than a booking site.

The resort is a short walk from Nissi Beach itself and around 2 km from the centre of Ayia Napa, so guests can find their own entertainment without a taxi. On site there is a spa, tennis, watersports and beach bars, which keeps a mixed guest list occupied across a week.

Honest drawbacks

It is a large, busy resort. With 7,578 Google reviews and hundreds of holidaymakers on site, your wedding shares the property. Ask which venues sit furthest from the main pool areas.

Menus are quote-only. Hire fees are published, but the per-head cost that actually decides your budget is not. You cannot compare this venue properly until you have a menu sheet.

The good beach venues cost triple. Pelican and Rondavel at £515 (€600) against Thalassa at £260 (€300) and Ambrosia at nothing is a meaningful gap for a couple watching every line.

Seven nights minimum. As at most Cyprus resort venues, that is a fixed accommodation cost before you have booked a single supplier.

Ayia Napa in peak season. July and August bring heat in the mid-30s and the town at full volume. May, June, September and early October give you the same sea with fewer complications.
