Why Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos

Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos is Kanika’s 5-star all-inclusive property at 48 Poseidonos Avenue, on the Kato Paphos seafront. The resort lists 276 renovated rooms and suites, six themed restaurants, five themed bars, five themed pools with waterfalls and waterslides, and a Blue Flag beach with serviced sunbeds. For a UK couple bringing 80 people, the scale is the argument. Guests sleep, eat, swim and celebrate on one site, and the all-inclusive board removes the awkward conversation about who pays for lunch on the Thursday. There is an adults-only wing with its own pools and dining alongside three supervised kids’ clubs, which is a genuinely useful split when your guest list runs from toddlers to grandparents.

One thing to get straight early: there are two Olympic Lagoon resorts. This one is in Paphos on the west coast. The other is in Ayia Napa on the south-east coast, with different venues, different capacities and a different municipality. The ceremony: Olympian Sunset

Ceremonies happen at the Olympian Sunset, a purpose-built outdoor venue set about 5 metres from the water on a private stretch of the beachfront, with a gazebo, palms and the Medieval Castle of Paphos in the background. It is the reason most couples shortlist this hotel.

The capacity is the catch. Olympic Holidays lists the Olympian Sunset at 70 people seated. If you are planning around 80 guests, that number decides whether this venue works at all, so put it in your first email rather than your fifth.

Hire fees are quoted two different ways depending on who you ask. Best of Cyprus Weddings lists ceremony hire at £515 (€600) for hotel residents and £860 (€1,000) for non-residents. Olympic Holidays says ceremony hire sits inside the wedding package while reception venue hire is charged separately. Both cannot be true for the same booking, so ask which applies to your quote.

Included set-up covers dressed chairs with white covers, a red or white aisle carpet, a ceremonial table with skirting, plus linens, cutlery, crockery and glassware for the dinner reception.

Reception venues and hire fees

Five spaces are offered, each with its own hire charge. Capacities differ slightly between operator listings, so treat these as the figures to confirm rather than as gospel.

• Blue Lagoon Gardens - up to 70 guests, hire £385 (€450). The Wedding Travel Company describes it as the only venue that permits a DJ for a late-night party, which matters if dancing is non-negotiable.
• Captain’s Deck - up to 70 guests per Olympic Holidays, hire £345 (€400). Sits above its own small lake looking over the gardens and sea. The Wedding Travel Company quotes up to 80 seated or 140 standing for the same space, so this one needs pinning down.
• Seven Orchids - up to 50 guests, hire £345 (€400). A shaded outdoor Pan-Asian restaurant beside a waterfall. Olympic Holidays notes it is released for receptions only on Mondays and Thursdays.
• Blue Lagoon Pool Bar - up to 50 guests, hire £345 (€400). Inside the pool area with sea views.
• Lobby Lounge - £170 (€200), for cake cutting and toasts only, not a dinner venue.

Food is priced separately. Menus start from £51 (€59) per person. Plated and meze service is available for up to 30 people; buffet and BBQ formats need a minimum of 30. A private bar with staff at your reception venue adds £260 (€300).

Non-resident guests need a drinks pass: £47 (€55) per adult, £34 (€39) for ages 13 to 17, £24 (€28) for ages 5 to 12, £16 (€19) for ages 3 to 4, free under 2. Guests staying at the hotel keep their all-inclusive entitlement through the wedding day.

What a package actually costs

Kanika does not publish wedding prices. The two useful public reference points are both from third parties.

The Wedding Travel Company advertises a ceremony and reception package from £7,569 based on 25 people, bundling a UK planner and local coordinator, ceremony florals, bridal hair and make-up, half-day photography, a single-tier cake, a Cyprus meze menu, all-inclusive drinks, a professional DJ and a spa massage for two.

Best of Cyprus Weddings puts an average 30-guest wedding here at around £10,750 (€12,500), covering the civil ceremony and registrar fees, venue hire, the dinner reception, decor, cake, DJ, a musician, fireworks and planning.

Whichever route you take, four things are excluded from the hotel package and have to be added: reception venue hire, the mayor’s fee, the apostille fee and food. The legal bit and the Paphos municipal fee

The hotel supplies the setting; Paphos Municipality supplies the marriage. Its published fee list is unusually clear, and the hotel tier is the expensive one:

• £410 (€478.15) - usual marriage fee where the ceremony takes place at a hotel resort in Paphos and the wedding is at least 15 days after you submit the application.
• £545 (€631.92) - special marriage fee for a hotel resort ceremony held one to two days after application.
• £110 (€128.15) and £240 (€281.92) - the same two tiers if you marry at the Town Hall instead.

Guest logistics

Paphos International Airport is roughly 14 to 16 km away, about a 20 to 25 minute drive, which is the shortest airport hop of any major Cyprus wedding hotel. Guests flying into Larnaca instead face closer to two hours, so put the airport code in your save-the-date.

The couple must be resident for a minimum of 7 nights. That is a fixed cost on top of everything else, and it is worth doing the sums before you fall for the photos: seven nights for two in high season is real money that a villa or Town Hall wedding would not demand.

Honest drawbacks

The ceremony caps at 70. For the 80-guest UK wedding this site is built around, that is the deciding number. Ask what the overflow arrangement looks like.

Two weddings a day in the shoulder season. October to May the hotel runs two a day; June to September, one. Cheaper months cost you exclusivity.

Published capacities disagree. Captain’s Deck is quoted at 70 by one operator and 80 seated by another; Seven Orchids at 50 and 40. Get your own written confirmation.

Non-resident guests pay to drink. If part of your party stays off site, add £47 (€55) a head before you compare this against a venue that lets you buy your own bar.

Nothing is published. Every figure above comes from operators and planners rather than the hotel, which means your quote is the only number that counts.
