Why Olympic Lagoon Resort Ayia Napa

Olympic Lagoon Resort Ayia Napa is Kanika’s 5-star all-inclusive property at 15 Sotou Hadjiprokopiou, a short walk from the centre of town. The resort lists seven themed restaurants, four themed bars and seven themed pools including a lazy river, plus direct sandy beach access through the adults-only Olympic Bay wing. This is the sister property to Olympic Lagoon Resort Paphos, and the two are genuinely different weddings. Paphos gives you a ceremony deck 5 metres from the sea and a 70-guest ceiling. Ayia Napa gives you a private sunken garden and considerably more room. If your list is heading past 70, this is the one to look at first.

The all-inclusive layout also splits the guest list sensibly. Adults-only zones at Olympic Bay and Fisherman’s Village sit alongside family accommodation, kids’ facilities and an arena running live shows, so the friends who want a lazy river and the aunt who wants a quiet lounger both get what they came for.

The ceremony: Olympian Gardens

Ceremonies are held in the Olympian Gardens, a private space of just over 1,000 square metres set inside a sunken garden with small lakes, waterfalls and a small cave where the couple marry. It is fully outdoors, so it carries the usual weather caveat.

Capacity is the headline. Olympic Holidays lists theatre-style seating for up to 150 people for the ceremony. That is more than double the ceremony capacity at the Paphos sister resort, and it is why this property suits a bigger British guest list.

If you want the Gardens for the reception as well as the ceremony, the number drops to 120 and a scheduling rule kicks in: only the last wedding of the day can hire the Gardens for a reception. Operator notes also mention a venue security deposit of around £515 (€600) to hold the Gardens for a banquet booking, so ask whether that applies to your date.

Reception venues

Three reception options are listed, and the food format is tied to the space rather than left open:

• Olympian Gardens - up to 120 guests, buffet or BBQ only, and only for the day’s final wedding.
• Rose - up to 100 guests, with buffet, plated service or meze menus.
• Orchid - up to 60 guests, plated service and meze only.

Rose and Orchid are the indoor banqueting rooms, which is a real advantage in July and August or if rain arrives in shoulder season. The resort also uses its You & Me bar for cocktail receptions.

Two fixed extras are worth writing into your budget now. A private bar with staff at the reception venue costs £260 (€300). Hiring a room for cake cutting and a toast between the ceremony and dinner costs £170 (€200).

Reception areas run until 23:30, with longer hire available for an additional charge. Guests staying at the resort keep their all-inclusive entitlement; non-resident guests need a pass, and that allowance also runs from one hour before the ceremony to 23:30.

What it costs

Kanika publishes no wedding prices, so the public benchmark comes from UK operators. The Wedding Travel Company advertises a ceremony and reception package from £7,759 based on 25 people, covering a UK wedding planner, a local coordinator, the Olympian Gardens ceremony venue, a bridal bouquet and buttonhole, half-day photography, bridal hair and make-up, a single-tier cake, the reception venue, a Cyprus meze menu, all-inclusive drinks and a professional DJ.

The hotel’s own package is narrower but detailed. Olympic Holidays lists a ceremony photographer with 40 digital images, flowers, sparkling wine, a single-tier cake, ceremony set-up and music, VIP check-in, a couples’ spa treatment, a candlelit dinner, breakfast in bed, wine in the room, late check-out, a wedding gift, the wedding licence and marriage certificate, coordination and a taxi to and from the Town Hall for the paperwork.

Four things are explicitly excluded: reception venue hire, food, the mayor’s fee and the apostille fee. A penalty fee also applies if you hold the ceremony at the resort without holding a reception there. The legal bit

Civil marriages in Ayia Napa are handled by the Agia Napa Municipality wedding registry, either at the Town Hall or at licensed venues such as this one. Ceremonies are short civil services conducted by the Mayor or a marriage officer, Monday to Friday between 11:00 and 18:00 and Saturday between 11:00 and 14:00, excluding bank holidays.

The marriage licence itself is set nationally at €281.92, about £240 at current rates, and it is not included in hotel packages. Ayia Napa planner listings add a marriage officer attendance fee of roughly £170 (€200), plus a further £170 (€200) for a Saturday ceremony. Those two figures come from wedding companies rather than the municipality’s own tariff, so treat them as the numbers to confirm.

Documents must be valid for three months and include passports, a birth certificate, a statutory declaration for UK passport holders, and original divorce or death certificates where they apply. The full checklist is in our getting married in Cyprus guide.

Guest logistics

Larnaca International Airport is the arrival point for almost every UK guest. Published distances to Ayia Napa vary between roughly 34 km and 53 km depending on the source and the route, which works out at something like a 40 to 50 minute transfer. Ask your operator for a firm coach time rather than relying on a booking-site figure.

The resort sits close enough to walk into Ayia Napa town, so guests who want a night off the resort have somewhere to go. Honest drawbacks

The Gardens reception is not always available. Only the final wedding of the day can use it, so if you want an early ceremony you are choosing between Rose and Orchid.

Everything stops at 23:30. The extension is possible but chargeable. Price it in from the start if a late party is the point of the day.

Indoor receptions are smaller than the ceremony. Rose caps at 100 and Orchid at 60 against a 150-seat ceremony, so a large wedding with a wet-weather plan needs a serious conversation.

Food format is dictated by the room. Orchid means plated or meze, and the Gardens means buffet or BBQ. If you have set your heart on a format, it narrows the venue choice rather than the other way round.
